TESTIMONY TIME // YB
Hey, I'm YB -- and I'm a Christian!
I'm originally from Pine Bluff, AR, but spent most of my life on the road, not quite belonging in any one place. Despite a challenging upbringing as one of 8 children in a single mother home, I found the presence of God at a young age.
I met my wife, Tammy Farris, at a halloween party in college. I was the photographer and she was the best dressed. Shortly after graduating college we got married. My wife is certainly my best friend!
Later on in our marriage we had wanted a child, and by God’s grace we got Kylie Journey. It’s cool to see her grow. Baby Kylie changed me big time. Her laugh and smiles are like coffee to me -- so energizing!
I love watching YouTube videos, whether it’s creative pieces or just Vlogs. I think a lot so I’m always analyzing. I’ve started to really like craft coffee, I’m still a HUGE fan of Starbucks but the locals have a special touch!
Background In Music
At age 8 I grabbed my first microphone. I was always around music. I was either rehearsing eminem’s 8 mile rap from a cassette tape or rehearsing my own lyrics in the mirror. For the longest time I had used music as an escape from reality. I got actually serious with music in High School. I bent a few rules to create music like ignoring curfew, staying up late writing, and having the music a little too loud. Thankfully, my mom always supported me.
When I made it to college things changed. I noticed all my friends on campus were sold out believers. Their lives opened my eyes big time. I got involved in the college ministry and started down a new path. I got a call from the college pastor months later and it was a invitation to the Passion Conference -- that was a easy yes!
I went to Passion and surrendered to Christ. When I came home, I invited God into the mess of my life. I gave Him everything, even the music. Through that submission God began to reveal His road map to me. What was once for me and my gain was now an avenue to point people to Jesus.
When I did music for me, I truly had nothing to offer people. In reality, people walk through life looking and hoping for "something" but sometimes it’s hard to articulate your needs in darkness. Now that I’m apart of what God is doing, I can offer something GREAT, something beyond me and anything I can do. Something that fills that void and that’s the free gift of Jesus. I believe God still has soldiers in this generation and in the generations to come. As long as I’m breathing I’m in full pursuit to gather soldiers to build God’s army.
Here's what you can do
I’ve learned over the years that it started with the youth. God Still Has Soldiers is the movement and we’re just getting started. We’re always praying for new soldiers. You can get plugged in at www.ybofficial.com/themovement to join the movement.
Do not give up on God, because God will not give up on you. Keep seeking. Keep believing. God is who He says He is.
